T-Mobile Wireless Internet

One Of The Fastest 3G/4G LTE Wireless Networks

As the 4th largest wireless provider in the U.S., T-Mobile is taking many steps to keep their wireless network up to speed with AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. With a brand new 4G network, T-Mobile wireless Internet is currently on of the fastest wireless networks.

T-Mobile's 4G wireless network was launched at the end of 2010 and, on average, is about three times faster than current 3G networks.

The key to T-Mobile's faster 4G speeds is a technology called HSPA+. This stands for High Speed Packet Access Plus. For 3G, both AT&T and T-Mobile setup HSPA networks, while Verizon and Sprint used a different 3G technology called CDMA. With the recent upgrade from normal HSPA to HSPA+, T-Mobile's network now has download speeds of 5 to 8 Mbps on average, with faster bursts possible.

T-Mobile's 4G devices will also work with their 3G networks, so you don't have to worry about compatibility issues while traveling outside of 4G coverage areas. T-Mobile is also keeping the prices for their 4G data plans quite low. They have a $10/month plan for 200 MB per month, and a $30/month plan for unlimited Web and email access.

Some of the major selling points for T-Mobile wireless Internet include:

  • HSPA+ 4G Network - Download speed of around 5 to 8 Mbps on average.
  • 4G Coverage - Over 200 million people covered in 100 major markets.
  • Backward Compatible - Non-HSPA+ handsets also receive a speed increase.
  • Multiple Plans - Voice-only, voice & text, or voice, text & mobile data plans.
  • Streaming Video - Watch steaming videos without being connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Google Android - New smartphones using the Android operating system.
  • Tablet PCs - Use new tablets on T-Mobile's network, like the Dell™ Streak™ 7.

Although you might read marketing data from T-Mobile that claims 21 Mbps downloads, please note that is the theoretical maximum. For consumer evaluation purposes, it is better to stick to the average speeds shown by multiple tests (the 5 to 8 Mbps average). Still, with most wireless 3G download speeds averaging around 1.5 to 2.5 Mbps at best, the new T-Mobile 4G network is going to be a noticeable improvement in speed.

Although you won't be able to use iPhones or iPads on T-Mobile, they do have a growing selection of smartphones and tablet PCs that use the Android OS. Although Apple products have received a lot of attention in the past few years, don't overlook how capable and advanced some of the Android 4G devices are today. T-Mobile wireless is constantly adding new tablets and smartphones to their network which are just as good or even better than the Apple iPhone.
