Internet Guidelines For Kids


Children of all ages use the Internet for so many reasons. The benefits of Internet must not out weight the dangers that kid are faced with. As a parent, protection of a child is a duty that must not be taken lightly. Many Internet Providers provide tools to help parents keep a watchful eye on their children. Even as a kid you want to be taken seriously and trusted. Follow the Internet Guidelines for Kids below to show the importance of Internet responsibility:

 

Do's

Children follow the time restraints and rules your parents have set forth when you are online. Be forth coming and honest with your parents.

If you plan to meet any one that you have met only over the Internet always have a parent or guardian with you.

Inform your parents if you encounter inappropriate behavior, language, or images.

Help watch younger siblings when their online.

Use an anonymous name while in chat rooms, forums, and with email addresses.

Immediately close your browser if inappropriate images or language pop up.

Use the Internet to gain access to libraries and information to help with homework.

Take advantage of the Internet and visit historical places globally.

Respect the privacy and feelings of others.

Use virus scanning soft ware when downloading files.

 

Don'ts

Don't give personal information such as your name, address and phone number over the Internet. This would include information about your school, parents, or friend. Always get your parents permission to give out personal information.

Do not exchange photographs without receiving parental approval.

Don't give out your password for any account to anyone.

Never bully or stalk others on the Internet. Consumers who abuse their Internet service can be subject to disconnection.

Don't steal or make copies of copyrighted material without the owner's permission.

Never respond to inappropriate emails. Don't ignore it. Inform your parents right away.

Don't keep secrets for friends if they are using the Internet inappropriately or if they are experiencing bullying, stalking, or sexual advances.

Refrain from using pictures on social networks, blogs, chat rooms, or as an avatar. Use clip art or set your profile to private.

Don't remove files or emails from your computer. Police can use the information to detain a predator.

Don't be friends with any online that you would not feel comfortable introducing to your family.

Surfing the Internet can be fun and educational. It's easy to forget that cyber space is still the real world. All the safety guidelines parents teach children for the outside world applies to the Internet as well. Kids should enjoy all the many benefits of the Internet with parental guidance.
