Information About Apple Computers


Steve Wozniak, Steven Paul Jobs, and Ronald Wayne were the founders of Apple. In 1975, Wozniak and Jobs were working for Hewlett-Packard, designing Atari video games, and in the following year, the three men established Apple on April Fools' Day. They presented the first Apple I, a handmade personal computer, at the Homebrew Computer Club. In July, 1976, this computer kit was sold as a motherboard with basic textual video chips, CPU, and RAM for the price of $666.66.

On the 3rd of January, 1977, Wayne sold his share of the company for $800 to Wozniak and Jobs. After Apple was incorporated , Armas Clifford "Mike" Markkula Jr. provided important business funding and expertise. On the 16th of April, 1977, Apple II was introduced at the first West Coast Computer Fair e . It came with an open architecture as well as color graphics, which set it apart from its major competitors such as Commodore PET and TRS-80 . The Apple II featured a 5 ¼ inch floppy disk drive called Disk II.

Until the end of the 1970s, Apple had a production line and staff that was made up of capable computer designers. In May, 1980, Apple III was introduced. At that time, the company was competing with Microsoft and IBM in the business computing market.

Steve Jobs began working on Apple Lisa in 1978 after he visited the Xerox PARC with some of his colleagues. From that moment onwards, he was convinced that the computers of the future will use a GUI. In 1982, he was taken out of the Lisa team and he took over the Macintosh, which was Jef Raskin's computer project. The Lisa team and Jobs were competing with each other to see which of their products will be launched first. Lisa won and it became the first GUI personal computer that was sold to the public.

Because of Lisa's limited software titles and high price, it became a commercial failure. After that, in 1984, Apple launched the Macintosh. It was one of the greatest masterpieces ever created by Apple, and it ensured the company’s success. Along with the PowerBook, Apple introduced System 7, an upgrade of the operating system that introduced new networking capabilities and added color to the interface. Until 2001, this was the basic architecture for Mac OS.

In 2001, Apple launched the iPod digital audio player, which became a phenomenal success, selling more than 100 million units in 6 years. Two years later, Apple introduced the iTunes store to enable music fans to download songs on the internet for $0.99 per song. Songs from iTunes were transferable to iPods. On January 10, 2006, the MacBook Pro was introduced, and it became one of the first Apple computers to feature the Intel Core Duo CPU. In August of the same year, the PowerBook, Power Mac, and iBook lines were withdrawn, and they were succeeded by MacBook, MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro. In 2007, the Apple iPhone was launched.

With the success of the iTunes store, Apple is planning to rent out online movies in the near future. The movies can be downloaded for the price of $3.99 per piece. It is reported that the company has signed deals with Disney and 20th Century Fox, and they are working to do the same with Paramount and Warner Bros. The movie rental option at the iTunes store is also expected to create more sales for Apple TV. Apple is also working on the “MacBook Mini”, which is an ultra-portable notebook that weighs around 2 to 4 pounds. The expected retail price for this notebook is between $1,500 and $2,000.
